Combined attacks are attacks that are carried out on the basis of combined actions of the team, aiming to reach the opponent’s goal in the most appropriate place of the field, thus surprising the opponent.
In combined attacks, it is fundamental that they are carried out through a variety of combined actions, executed with precision and certainty, with the aim of reaching the final phase with certain guarantees of success, without depending on the time factor.
In order to play offensive combination soccer, players with good technical quality and sufficient mastery of basic tactical concepts are required; in short, a high level of organization in the team’s offensive play is needed.
Combined offensive characteristics
As was made clear in the concept, the combinational attack consists of the different lines of the team combining with each other in an attempt to overcome the resistance of the opposing team, with the goal of achieving an appropriate finish. To achieve this goal, the combinational attack is carried out in three phases, as follows: Initiation phase. The development or transition phase. The final phase. In the initiation phase, the team’s first line, with the cooperation of the midfield line, combines until it finds the most suitable attacking lane. Once this lane is found, the preparation phase begins, in which the midfield line performing the transition is under great pressure from the opposing players; therefore, the players of the second line must not only be precise and confident, but also have an adequate speed of thought, decision-making and execution; in short, they must be players with a high technical level. In this phase, the main objective is to overcome the opponent and continue to look for the most suitable attacking spaces, preferably the lateral lanes, in order to establish a predominantly wing-oriented game and reach the final phase in optimal conditions. Once the closing phase is reached, the second and third line players try to create numerical superiority in the ball area to make it easier to overcome the opponent. Then the players in the third row try to get out of the opponent’s marking to surprise the opponent and win the action against him, effectively finishing the attacks.
